Case Studies
Case Study 1
In June 2005 The Research Engine was commissioned by Dr Nigel Lockett, Lancaster University Management School, to undertake a number of semi-structured telephone interviews in small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) using hosted business enterprise applications. The interviews were conducted, transcribed and analysed using the Wmatrix technology. A journal paper was subsequently submitted to Electronic Markets: The International Journal (Vol. 16, Issue 1) in July and accepted for publication in November 2005. See Lockett et al., 2006
Case Study 2
Lancaster University was commissioned by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) to carry out a study on knowledge transfer (KT) in late 2006. The study, consisting of 33 interviews, took three distinct perspectives on KT activities, namely academics, non-academics and businesses, in order to identify key issues relating to the understanding of, practices of, barriers to, drivers for, benefits of and the measuring and evaluation of knowledge transfer. The Research Engine carried out the telephone interviews and their transcription. Finally we conducted a Wmatrix analysis of the data which assisted in the preparation of the final report. For further details, see the EPSRC InfoLab21 Knowledge Transfer Study Report (PDF) and the ICT Knowledge Transfer Research Project.
